An installation ceremony is one of the most cherished traditions in the Rotaract calendar, a day to
celebrate commitment, leadership, and the spirit of service that strengthens our community. It is not
just a change of leadership but a heartfelt moment of appreciation for those who have led and an
enthusiastic welcome for those stepping into new roles.
The 23rd Installation Ceremony of the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, beautifully embodied this spirit. The event unfolded in an atmosphere filled with excitement, gratitude,
and pride, as members, guests, and dignitaries gathered to witness the beginning of yet another
promising Rotaract year.

Welcoming a New Chapter
The ceremony commenced with enthusiasm as the hall filled with familiar faces and new members
eager to take part in this momentous day. The event was gracefully compered by Rtr. Inuka Dissanayake,
Rtr. Melissa Aluwihare and Rtr. Devanshi Perera, whose warm smiles and engaging presence kept the
audience connected throughout the morning.
The proceedings began with the lighting of the traditional oil lamp, a timeless symbol of new beginnings
and shared purpose. The flickering flames represented hope and unity, reminding everyone of the light
that shines when service and fellowship come together.
Among the distinguished guests who graced the occasion were the Chief Guest, Youth Service Director of
the Rotary Club of Colombo Downtown Rotarian Mindula Perera, Guest of Honour, Rotarian Abirami
Ragunanthanan, Assistant District Rotaract Chair; District Rotaract Representative for 2025–26 Rtr. Past
President Nazmi Mahamood, Assistant District Rotaract Representative, Rotarian Rtr. Past President
Praneeth Madusanka and Guide Club Coordinators Rtr. Harini Sadewani and Rtr. Akila Weerasuriya.
Following the National Anthem, Flag Salutation, Rotaract Invocation, and Rotary Four-Way Test, the
ceremony officially began, setting the tone for an inspiring morning that celebrated service, unity, and
leadership.
A Warm Welcome to All
The gathering was warmly welcomed by Rtr. Reshini Balasuriya, whose thoughtful words expressed
gratitude to the esteemed guests, senior members, and fellow Rotaractors for being part of this
important milestone. Her speech reflected the pride and joy of the club as it continued its journey of
service and friendship.
The Secretary’s Report for 2024–25, delivered by Rtr. Kavindi Hettiarachchi took the audience on a
journey through the year’s memorable highlights. From impactful community projects to unforgettable
fellowship moments, the report celebrated the achievements, teamwork, and enthusiasm that defined
the year gone by.
Continuing the proceedings, the outgoing President, Rtr. Shenal Wickramasinghe, took the stage to
share his reflections on the past year. His heartfelt speech captured both the triumph and challenges of
his terms, expressing sincere gratitude to his Board of Directors and club members for their dedication,
creativity and teamwork throughout his journey.
Honoring Dedication and Service
Recognizing the unwavering commitment of those who served during the past year, Service Letters were
presented to the outgoing Board and Executive Committee of 2024–25. Each certificate represented
gratitude for the time, passion, and hard work they devoted to making the club’s vision a reality.
Their contributions, from leading impactful initiatives to strengthening bonds within the club, stood as a
reminder that true leadership is measured by the difference one makes in others’ lives.
A Moment of Joy and Color
Adding a vibrant splash of artistry to the morning, a captivating entertainment performance was
presented by Rtr. Sithika and Rtr. Sesadi. Their lively and graceful act filled the hall with laughter and
cheer, perfectly capturing the creative and energetic spirit of the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Science.
The performance served as a joyful interlude, reminding everyone that while service is at the heart of
Rotaract, fellowship and fun are what make the journey truly special.

Passing the Torch: A New Era Begins
The highlight of the event soon arrived, the collaring and passing of the gavel, marking the official
transfer of leadership from Rtr. Shenal Wickramasinghe to Rtr. Nethmina Ediriweera, who assumed
duties as the President for 2025–26.
As the collar rested on his shoulders, Rtr. Nethmina took the podium to deliver his first address as
President. His speech was filled with gratitude, passion, and a clear vision for the year ahead. He
emphasized unity, innovation, and commitment to service as guiding values for the new Rotaract year.
His words inspired confidence and excitement among members, reminding everyone that leadership is
not about titles but about shared purpose.

With a sense of pride and anticipation, the Executive Committee and Board of Directors for the year
2025–26 were officially introduced to the gathering. The announcement was met with warm applause
as the new team took their places on stage, ready to carry forward the legacy of excellence built over
