“Your mental health is everything – prioritize it. Make the time like your life depends on it, because it does.” – Mel Robbins

In day-to-day life, we go through various challenging situations and everyone feels worried, anxious or down from time to time. This is completely normal until it becomes uncontrollable and develops into a critical mental condition. That’s why it is essential to consider mental health just as much as our physical health.
According to WHO, Mental health is a state of mental well-being that enables people to cope with the stresses of life, realize their abilities, learn well and work well, and contribute to their community. It also states that it is more than just the absence of mental disorders and disabilities. Peak mental health is not only about managing active conditions but also looking after ongoing wellness and happiness.
This includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being. It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, maintain healthy relationships, and make mindful choices. Mental health is important at every stage of life, from childhood through adolescence to adulthood.
Everyone is at some risk of developing a mental health disorder, regardless of age, sex, educational level, income or ethnicity. Biological, medical or genetic factors, poor economic conditions, adverse childhood experiences, occupation and the level of social involvement and many other consequences might lead someone towards an unbalanced mental state.
A mental illness is a mental health condition that gets in the way of thinking, relating to others, and day-to-day functions. Dozens of mental illnesses have been identified and defined. They include depression, generalized anxiety disorder, bipolar disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder, post-traumatic stress disorder, schizophrenia and many more.
The good news is that most of these illnesses can often be treated. Individuals with a mental illness can often ease their symptoms and feel better by talking with a therapist and following a treatment plan that may or may not include medication.

But prevention is better than cure. So, taking care of mental health on a daily basis is much more sensible. This includes practicing self-care and seeking support when needed. Self-care can include activities such as exercising, meditating, spending time with loved ones, and engaging in hobbies or interests. It is also important to make sure to get enough rest and nourish the body with a healthy diet.
Focusing on mental health can have numerous positive impacts on life. It can improve our relationships, enhance our work output and boost overall well-being. Additionally, it can uplift one’s self-esteem and self-confidence, which in turn can lead to better stress management. By prioritizing mental health, we can feel more in control of our thoughts and emotions, ultimately leading to positive experiences and a greater sense of overall happiness and fulfillment.
