Horizons of human potential and the great achievements they bring out to the world, keep on expanding over years from the Stone age to the stars. Human minds are bringing magic to life, most of which seemed impossible once in history. Our progress as a species in the last one or two centuries has completely diverted the path in which mankind is headed, taking us to a new era of technology and development. Apart from all the materialistic accomplishments that flow to our minds when considering the greatest achievements of mankind, below is something very unique in importance beyond its worldly value; better described as a spiritual achievement of humanity, for humanity!
Due to this greatest achievement, mankind has become able to accumulate and distribute knowledge without boundaries. This has opened up portals for them to connect with deeper points of their hearts exploring their own fascinating souls whilst building up bonds so strong with fellow humans by reaching them through the most powerful weapon, WORDS! A plethora of human thoughts armed with this weapon are being circulated all day, every day across countries. Words that get wings in the form of books, articles, poetry etc. fly high, crossing skies to reach every beating heart, making our own kind more thoughtful and prudent indeed.
It is of course of no doubt that humans have always possessed the ability to think and get brilliant things done from ere days. Thinking innovatively has always unraveled new pathways as they acquired and mastered new knowledge. In my point of view, the most wonderful outcome of our ancestors’ thinking minds is how they discovered WRITING. For a moment, just picture in your head some early human attempting to write his thoughts out! He probably might have never wondered his own kind will make it up this far, to a golden epoch of humankind where people express as well as hide themselves behind the letters, they put into words so meticulously. Imagine these words they write from their hearts making meaningful stories giving feelings and uncovering emotions in readers’ minds! Whoa, the mere thought gives me goosebumps!

Writing has also allowed humans to succeed in a variety of fields including mathematics, and sequences leading to far more fascinating discoveries such as calculus. In a world where all living creatures should obey the laws of nature and therefore as death comes for all of us, the spread of new knowledge through oral language had become less fruitful. The limits of data we can hold, comprehend and compute within our heads alone at a time are limited and abstract thinking is less efficient that way. In simple means, almost all achievements that we so proudly state today would have been impossible or significantly difficult without the creation of writing.
According to scholarly articles, writing has been invented in the Near East, China and Mesoamerica. These indicate the development of writing systems from tokens to scripts which were exclusively for the accounting purposes of ancient man. Various symbols and glyphs were chosen so wisely by the ancestors which were engraved on animal bones, turtle shells, clay boards, rocks, etc. The earliest examples of writing include pictograms/cave paintings in temples, proving to us nothing other than a remarkable era of human history that laid the solid foundation and ushered humankind towards a developed world, both in terms of their intellect and mindset.

The most beautiful aspect of writing that fascinates me most is that it allows the humans who are dealing with huge daily bulks of life’s complications and challenges; to untangle, organize and express their thoughts. Pondering on anything and everything around us is the key to writing. In this regard, writers and their writings seem to play two different roles at times. One might find his own solace through writing and cope with his own distressing struggles while some people write to bring others up, to encourage them, to help the souls stuck in the dark by providing them with a final beautiful ray of hope. Isn’t it wonderful how a few words written by a person in his/her perspective can soothe someone else’s mind, cheer him up, and put his insecurities and worries aside, at least for a split second! I suppose, that maybe that is one of the reasons why writers are so passionate about writing. A little black ink on a white sheet of paper can create much difference in the already suffocating black and white world. Pure magic, it is!
“Writing can be a true spiritual discipline. Writing can help us concentrate, to get in touch with the deeper stirrings of our hearts, to clarify our minds, to process confusing emotions, to reflect our own experiences, to give artistic expression to life…”
