I am dreaming I am lying on my back in an empty garden An angel whispering in my sleep Suddenly, I can’t breathe I toss and turn Until I fall apart, And I hear my own ragged breath …I cough I am dreaming Suddenly, I feel it I see my mother’s face Just a shimmering light far away No goodbye I am dreaming Suddenly, I see A knight in shining armor approaching me… My pulse is weak, Then, I can’t breathe again. The angels are trying, to keep my garden alive But now, I am stalling Suddenly, It is so dark and cold, I close my eyes… I see myself staring White coats taking me away I see myself in pain Lights on Defibrillator held above Pounding my silent heart I see it I see the worst Hope in everyone’s face Slowly I diminish As the beep changes I am back to me Waking up Seeing the knight gone I’m alive I lift my eyes I see the real me One year swept past me What did I miss? “A lot” Voices whisper All in all My short days grew long Now I am watching the sunlight Grazing my window Ready for what’s next Thanking the hopeful faces
