Spreading the Christmas cheer at the “Noguchi Child Development Center, Papiliyana”
No matter which religion we follow, Christmas is a favorite holiday season for everyone. Children are the ones who get most excited about it but not every child is lucky enough to spend the Christmas with their families. Knowing that every child deserve to be happy in Christmas season we decided to pay a short visit to the “Noguchi Child Development Center, Papiliyana” in order to have an early Christmas celebration. This center is home for 26 young boys of age below 15.
A few days before the visit Rotaractors bought gift items for the children as well as basic necessities including dry rations like rice in order to donate. The evening before the event the gifts were wrapped. The gift packs comprised of stationary items and books, toys for the little ones and some candy.
On the 24th of December the Rotaractors arrived at the center early morning. A tea party where various finger food and milk packets were served to the children was the first item for the day. After the tea party the teenagers had to participate in a “Shramadana” at their school and we were left with the little fellows who belonged to the 6-10 age group. We started off with asking their names. After getting comfortable with each other we decided to sing together and they really surprised me with their singing and dancing skills. No one being left out, they all joined us with singing and showing some super cool dance moves. They managed to sing every song we requested from them and in turn we did the same.
After singing and dancing for a while they didn’t seem to be tired and wanted to play with us so we played cricket and football with them.
After having a really good time with them the event came to an end. It was a fun filled day spent with the satisfaction of making someone smile. The smiles we put on their faces were well worth the effort.
