love and compassion are necessities , not luxuries.Without them humanity cannot survive- Dalai Lama
Having love , compassion, kindness towards entire human beings without any discrimination is humanity. Love and kindness doesn’t have any limit but it should be spread over the entire living beings.
Rotaract club of faculty of science , University of Colombo decided to spread love and compassion among differently abled children and adults and spent a splendid day with them.On 31st of October with so much of love we all went to “preethipura” children’s home and started our picnic or journey rarther.Lots of smiley faces greeted us with hearts filled of the hope of having a day full of happiness. For our surprise they reminded of us the last year trip where we took them to the beach.Curiosity was in their faces about the places we are going to take them and enthusiasm was to the highest.
“akke akke are you taking us again to the beach? shall we go there again please?, please?????” their voices echoed in the bus.
My entire body numbed when one girl held my hand tightly and asked me to not to go any where but to stay with her. I then held her hand made sure that we are going to stay with them for the entire day. Starting the journey with singing songs (one song they really liked to sing repeatedly was “IBBA IBBA GAL IBBA”) our hearts filled with joy seeing their happy faces. All the rotaractors sang together with them and children were overjoyed.
We arrived our first destination to “Nawagamuwa”temple and took them to worship with very care. Having flowers in their hands, they were so happy to have come to a different place where they have never been before. Happiness was visible through their eyes when they offered flowers to Lord Buddha and they didn’t forget to offer merit for us as well for taking them there. Their happiness was our happiness.
For lunch we approached to Seethawaka Botanical garden where we thought that they will have some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of nature. It was truly a place with much peace and was beautiful in every way. ” akke akke where are the flowers? ” curiosity about the place came out through their voices. After offering them a fine meal they enjoyed the view of the surrounding and had some rest. Humanity overflowed every where from our fellow rotaractors. They were helped in every way so that they would feel much comfortable.
Finally we went to the place where they were more happy to go ; the beach. Happy faces were everywhere even though one would expect to see a bunch of tired faces from them after travelling for an entire day. It was Maybe because they knew the fact that they are being taken to the beach. They danced and sang and played in the beach with us. Some were asking for toys such as ‘whistles and kites’ while some were asking for foods such as ‘koththu, wadey, etc’. There was this one young boy among them who had so many wishes and so many curiosities which actually came out at the beach, once i heard him asking a fellow rotaractor for a place to find a yellow mice, a chocolate brown coloured cat and a red coloured parrot, he was so funny in many ways. And everyone enjoyed their time at the beach.
After a day full of happiness we took them back to their home. But after all it was their thank giving and feelings of gratitudes which made us more happier. One girl held my hand and cried saying that they had such a memorable day because of us.Tears were pouring among many of the rotaractors as i speak.Every child expressed their thank giving as they could, which made us come back with tears and with the thoughts of having a successful day of love offered and kindness.
