We were fortunate enough to get the opportunity to attend the District Youth Service Seminar organized by the Rotary Club of Colombo Regency on the 19th of September 2015.
The objective of the seminar was to give the Rotaractors, Interactors and the Rotarians in the district a chance to interact with each other and develop their skills and knowledge with regard to Rotaract, Interact and Rotary.
As individuals who have been a part of the Rotaract Club for a very limited time period this felt like a once in a lifetime experience for us. We were introduced to distinguished members of the Rotary family as well as fellow Rotaractors who share our dreams are visions for the future.
The highlight of the day was a speech by Mr. Ishan Jallil. He based his speech on how each of us should motivate ourselves as well as each other in order to achieve a common goal for the entire world. He emphasized on the importance of building ourselves as individuals and to reflect on our behaviours more often in order to recognize our strengths and weaknesses. His words inspired us to understand where we stand in life and to work every day to become better at who we are and aim for excellence in what we do.
There were also few interesting question and answer sessions conducted by Rotarians. These sessions were focused on expressing our ideas on the positives and the negatives of the organizations. The possible areas of improvement were discussed to great extent and as young Rotaractors, we got the chance to witness the bigger picture of the organization. Subsequent to this, the participants were separated into groups and given the chance to debate about the issues that came up during the question and answer session. This was a great way to bring all the ideas and opinions of the audience to one common platform.
Unlike other events that focus on specific projects the club are working on, this seminar was focused primarily on who we are as Rotaractors. It was an experience that taught us a lot on how lucky we are to be a part of this prestigious organization and gave us the motivation to commit ourselves towards its development.
