There are moments when service becomes poetry, when kindness moves not just hands, but hearts.
Project Sevana 2025 was one such symphony, composed lovingly by the Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo.
Rooted in a dream of inclusion, Sevana unfolded in two beautiful chapters, Seeds of Hope and Horizon of Happiness. The first phase, Seeds of Hope, began with action. Rotaractors set up a vibrant car wash fundraiser and a colourful bracelet-and-coffee stall, blending hard work with creativity. Cars gleamed under the sun; laughter filled the air; bracelets carried names and wishes. Each ticket sold, each drop of sweat, each handmade bracelet was a seed, a promise to the differently abled children at Sevana Special School that they were seen, valued, and celebrated. Then came Horizon of Happiness, a day crafted for joy. The children embarked on a journey beyond the walls of their everyday lives, visiting the sacred Basilica of Our Lady of Lanka and the blooming Gampaha Botanical Gardens. There were games, songs, guitar strums floating in the breeze, sky lanterns lighting up the twilight, tiny stars carrying dreams upward. In every giggle and every wide-eyed wonder, you could see it: hope had taken root. Sevana 2025 wasn’t just about trips or events. It was about breaking invisible chains. It was about telling every child, "You belong. You matter. Your dreams are as vast as the sky." It aligned with powerful global calls, Sustainable Development Goals, Rotary’s vision for Health, Inclusion, and Equality, but at its core, it was very human, very real. It was a reminder that true leadership isn’t about titles or trophies. It's about service that transforms lives, one tender moment at a time. As the sun set on Project Sevana 2025, the smiles remained, stitched into memories, stitched into futures. Sevana lives not just in the children’s hearts but in every Rotaractor who chose to believe that a small act of love can shift the world. Here’s to more seeds. More hope. More horizons. And a world where every child’s dream finds its wings. Written by: Community Services Avenue
