The Rotaract Club of the Faculty of Science at the University of Colombo was chartered in the year 2006 and has been an active member in the district with a membership of more than 200. Our Rotaract club is sponsored and mentored by the Rotary Club of Colombo Downtown. We celebrated the 17th charter day on the 7th of December. As per a new concept this year, we celebrated the day in a different way by sharing lunch packets with non-academic staff as well as with a few others. Our aim was to be the bridge and let the students have the opportunity to donate lunch parcels, be happy, and get the self-satisfaction of the collective effort.
The Club Service Team gathered and came up with a new concept to celebrate the charter day while fostering a collective desire to undertake a meaningful initiative by sharing lunch packets with the needy.
To amplify the impact of our endeavor, we reached out to all the Rotaractors of the Faculty of Science, University of Colombo, encouraging them to contribute by bringing an extra lunch packet alongside their own. This collaborative effort aimed to pool resources for a more substantial and widespread distribution of meals.
On the 7th of December, at the ILC premises, we collected the donated lunch packets. These contributions were then thoughtfully distributed as planned. We distributed desserts to add a touch of sweetness to their day. Subsequently, the remaining lunch packets were allocated to individuals in need around the Town Hall area.
This collective act of compassion and community engagement not only added a distinctive and purposeful dimension to our 17th Charter Day celebration but also emphasized the Rotaract spirit of service and goodwill yet again.
