Companionship is like a rocket, it can take you to the highest of highs and light up even the darkest of skies. It’s a beautiful and powerful force that can fill your life with joy and purpose, carrying you through the storms and giving you strength when times are tough. A beautiful source of love and understanding, an anchor of comfort in life’s stormy seas and a priceless gift that enriches the soul.
We are all, in one way or another, in search of companionship. In a society where we so often strive for individual success and competition, having a companion by our side to boost us up and to provide us with emotional and moral support is invaluable.
Cherishing the ones we’re able to relax with, around whom we let our guard down to be our true selves, the Editors team of the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science, University of Colombo instigated the lyrical anthology, Songs of Amity – two souls, connected in life’s sweet embrace.
Comprising a total of 7 magnetic pieces of poetry, Songs of Amity was released as a mini-series weaved by the creative writers of the Editors team.
Starting off with Rtr. Dinili Gunasena‘s Write, a portrayal on the hardships of reaching out for a companion through her words,
I'll write, I promise, but all I have yet are drafts of letters that each night written to death.
conveying the message that it could be hard to seek out for refuge, but it’s always worth it for the ultimate reward. Expressing the true value of human companionship Rtr. Isuri Senevirathne‘s To Let Go made its revelation as the next beautiful piece of work elaborating on the comfort, support and reassurance that no other relationship can offer.
Highlighting on the unconditional love, comfort and the immeasurable happiness pets can bring to our lives, our next publication, Pets, more than a companion, the emotional poesy woven by Rtr. Thusai Kodikara was a boost of stress relief itself to the readers planting a sense of gratitude in all hearts towards those admirable creatures as it ended with the lines,
Helping us survive, always staying side by side They're the best companions you'll ever find in life.
Diving through a pool of emotions, expressing on the comfort of a simple embrace, a warm smile of a familiar face and all the simple joys that make our hearts skip beats, unveiled Rtr. Vihangi Thissera‘s magical piece of art, the Shared Bliss, bringing peace and solace to all readers through its delicate yet powerful words.
Books are our ticket to a world of comfort and solace. They are our trusted confidants that provide relief through their stories, characters and worlds. They are the pages we turn to for understanding and guidance, and also our escape from the hectic reality. Thus, elaborating on the role books play as eternal companions, Rtr. Thinuri Indrapala‘s beautiful creation, Pages of Comfort, came out as our next addition to the Songs of Amity.

Providing us with a sense of belonging, a connection that reminds us that we’re never really alone, companions offer us with emotional and moral support, providing an outlet for our thoughts and worries without judgement. How Companions Change Our Lives, the elegant poetry of Rtr. Nethmini Samadhi, reminded us that the best people, bring out the best in us, with whom we find beauty in our life’s journey.
Wrapping up Songs of Amity, the collection of poems reminiscing on the exquisite and divine gift of companionship, our sole salvation in the journey of life, Rtr. Amashi Jayasena‘s, Colours of Comrades, was a graceful portrayal of the warm hues, and weaving bonds of true friendship.
In every turn of life you will find hurdles, you will find people who will leave you when you need them. You will get disheartened, but don’t worry. For when the next turn comes, you’ll find new companions. I am not saying all these companions will stay once their purpose is complete. They will also leave, but in your journey you will always find people who will walk with you, making it easier and more colorful… Embracing the bond that never fades, the love that surpasses life’s turmoil and strife, holding fast in times of success and joy, humming the Songs of Amity, hereby we depart.
