Celebrating the ‘ride or die’s
There are friends, there is family and then, there are friends that become family…
We meet many along the journey of life but only a few choose to stay. Out of them, the closest remain forever as our truest friends, our soulmates, the other half, our secret keepers, the ones with whom most of our fond memories were made.
In celebration to this special day dedicated to the copy-editors of our life story, #FriendzALert friendship day project was organized by the PR team together with the IT and Editor teams of the Rotaract club of faculty of science, University of Colombo.
During the time of a drawn-out pandemic, where every single day passes by solely with academics, FriendzALert was an opportunity to loosen up the stress, familiarize ourselves with our own batchmates and seniors whom we’ve never met and step out of the daily chaos.
#FriendzALert officially commenced in mid-July, when members from the PR, IT and Editor teams were recruited and the POC was made. It was the very first project organized by us freshers. So, along with a rush of nervousness and a sense of responsibility, a boost of commitment and an urge to excel ignited in all of us. And not to forget the 3 helping hands behind us, our immediate seniors; Hiruni akki, Yasas aiya and Sajani akki, who strongly supported and guided us in every tidbit of the procedure.
Following the selection of the POC, a meeting was called to brief out on the proceedings and to draft the project plan. Actually, it wasn’t the POC meeting that was engraved in our minds, but the extended project planning session between the members. It was then the real ice-breaking took place. The night dragged on, filling up with chit chats, constant giggles, teasing and project planning.
The next day, with the PR plan designed and approved, the team got into work.
#FriendzALert, with the slogan “celebrating the ‘ride or die’s”, is incepted on the basic concept of reviving memories and enlivening friendships. The first introductory post was shared on the 30th of July marking World friendship day 2021. Thus, a week full of euphoria commenced with the hyped-up mentality exploding in every teammate.
The project kickstarted with a friendship challenge, in which photos, videos and other cherished memories were shared on Instagram stories. Many took part in the challenge enabling us to witness diverse portrayals of true friendship and evocation.
Coming up was the plan for the highlight of our project, an Instagram live with a famous best friend duo. The idea made the whole team excited, but the hearty vibe was gradually engulfed by a wave of distress as repeated rejections from celebrities came our way. Rejection felt horrible, but one thing even the seniors were amazed about was the fact that none of the team members gave up. Even with the time running up, they spent their entire days contacting celebrities and their agencies. Ultimately the hard work and immense effort were repaid when Mr. Ashene Kapukotuwa and Mr. Nifal Ibrahim from the famous band Infinity accepted our invitation to grace the event as guests.
The group was once again enlightened in cheers. To brighten up the vibe and attract the attention of people, we decided to post a “guess the duo challenge” followed by a final countdown. Nights were spent script writing, planning out questions and building up to games for the talk show.
Just like everyone else, we too kept our count for the D-Day.
And then, that most anticipated moment finally arrived. With Nishen and Hiruni akki as hosts of the event, the IG live turned out to be a wonderful episode.
Everything went out smooth and perfect. The whole team was online, cheering through constant comments, keeping the vibe running. Music, friendship, memories and laughter brimmed the IG live and our guests too seemed to enjoy every passing second wholly just the same.
Hence, like all good things, #FriendzALert too reached its end. Well-drilled teamwork, unity and mutuality between teammates throughout one whole week were paid off with a major success in the project, adding one more milestone to each and every one of our lives.
Since there were countless memorable events, we all came up with the decision to recap the highlights of the project in a small video. This video was shared on our YouTube channel as a souvenir of the great teamwork.
Thus, #FriendzALert “celebrating the ‘ride or die’s”, concluded as a depiction of the true essence of friendship.
