The breathing caption database of the extra mile

It has been almost 4 months since the Team Editors of RACFOSUOC was brought to light. The 12 strong individuals with amazing skills of creativity, language skills, and technicality became the behind stage of the Rotaract blog. As the Editors for the year 2020/21, it gives us great pleasure to walk through the back door experience of our Team. It was just three zoom meetings where the plans for the quarter of our term was discussed along with the two projects “SANHITHA” and “The Enchanted Wilderness”.

The number “700” must-have resonated among each team member from the very first day, they started working on captions alternatively for the blog articles that were published daily. Trimming sentences yet keeping the idea and creativity, is not an easy task, for which the team groomed within days.

Rtr. Ishanka Deshapriya was assigned as the Sinhala proofreader. He nailed his job to the core without any mistakes. He is well fluent in Sinhala writing where most Sinhalese refuse to learn the detailed Sinhala language with grammar rules. Ishanka never forgets to celebrate being a Sinhalese and he showcases his golden attitude along with the gratitude towards his mother tongue as a person who never even types his name in English. This Sinhalese intellectual was an irreplaceable addition to the editors’ team. 

Rtr. Pavanthi Sudasinghe is a very well known person because of her unbelievable poetic talents. She was the smile maker in our team who didn’t allow others to feel bored when she was there. Simultaneously, she is very talented at suggesting names for novel projects as the project name “SANHITHA” too was her suggestion. She contributed her service with her amazing talents to the project ”WiseAdvice” and the project “Breathe” by being a Co-editor.

Despite Rtr. Raweesha Nethmini runs a busy schedule she was always free when she had to do something with the editors’ team. She never fails to express her positive or negative thoughts on our decision. That courageous habit of her helped us to bestow the perfect product from our team.

Rtr. Navodya Sathsarani usually researches before she takes any responsibility and after she takes over, she gives her highest potential. She is a magic box that includes so many new thoughts. When she was asked to suggest a project name or whatever, she usually replies with listed suggestions. She is a hard-working girl who always tried to develop her skills. She too was a Co-editor of the projects “WeGuide” and “GotPink?”

If Rtr. Sahashra Dinasiri sits anywhere with a pen and paper, she can write even a drama script. Even a poem of her will take minutes. She always gave an output than our expectations. This talented girl was a beautiful addition to the editors’ team. All the above-mentioned team members committed their dedication and support to successfully conclude the two phases of “SANHITHA”.

“The Enchanted Wilderness” is an instance where we used words to play our part in assisting the battle against the extinction of our avenue branded animals. 6 members of our editor’s team, along with some enthusiastic Rotaractors who had the passion to expand their knowledge on scientific writing in an interesting manner, took part in this project.

“What if we do it like a forest? Like we’re introducing animals from our forest-like…Mystique Meadow, Mystique Grove, Enchanted Wilderness…It sounds magical!”- These were the words of Rtr. Tharini Cabraal brought out the whole theme for the project. Tharini is a language enthusiast who loved playing with synonymous and her original quotes which don’t require alterations. She was the committed English editor of our Signature Project “Akhankara”.

Have you ever encountered the problem of the thumbnail of the blog link not appearing when dropping the WhatsApp message? When that happens, Rtr. Izad Ijaz was always there to get that fixed through the WhatsApp desktop app, which we all had eventually. Izad is a trilingual person, who took his part in Tamil caption making and proofreading our Tamil Blog articles. He is currently an editor of the project “Mihisara Asna”. Furthermore, he went the extra mile writing English articles for our blog when necessary. Rtr. Jegapragashan the silent yet talented soul took up the equal weight of the Tamil articles and captions with enthusiasm.

Rtr. Thiruni Withana was our fast writer, who could scramble any lengthy article with top quality. She will always add her own twist for the English captions she makes. Rtr. Sayagi Asogan as anyone else did her work tremendously and was always there to take up a POC editor’s post when it was most needed. Sayagi actively participated as an English editor in Mistletoe Magic and Got Pink treasure hunt, along with beautifully composed Tamil articles. 

Rtr. Rashmi Kurukulasooriya, was our always chilled out person with her own rule book and was always cheerful in carrying out the tasks. She was instrumental in organizing a Blogging competition “Hopscotch The Globe” under the International Services avenue, which was a great success.

Last but not least, our English proofreader Rtr. Shaini Wimalakeerthi, the adult in our team was always there to check any caption and to make them with care. Being a second year, she took her job as a co-editor of the project “Got Pink?” along with Rashmi and a co-editor of the project “Mistletoe Magic” along with Sayagi. She always had the cool attitude of dropping replies followed by 2-3 cute stickers.

Day by day it got better and better, as we looked at our editors grow as one team. Disaster may have struck the island. Nevertheless, the wheels kept rolling as we celebrated the little achievements of our blog solely in our WhatsApp group: TEAM EDITORS(RACFOSUOC), with weird emoji and cute stickers. We are extremely privileged to have been backed by a humble team of dedicated Rotaractors who proved that alone we can do so little, but together we can do so much.
