The transition from being an undergraduate to being employed is the one of the hardest progressions one has to face in life. Finding the right job, having the right qualifications, facing the very first professional interview and even finding the appropriate attire are just few of the imperative things weighing in on a graduate’s mind. This is a hard process for one to go through alone without any assistance. Future Challenge, a Professional Development Program has been a supportive platform for undergraduates to explore job opportunities, guiding them to build a successful career and helping dreams become realities.
Future Challenge, the very reason why the Rotaract Club of Faculty of Science University of Colombo was first initiated, was successfully organized for the 11th consecutive year in consultation with the Career Guidance Unit. It was conducted in three phases; Workshop, Mock Interviews and the Career Fair with MAS Capital as the Platinum Sponsor of Future Challenge 2017.
The first phase, Workshop was held on the 25th of January at the New Arts Theatre, University of Colombo. It was conducted as two sessions educating undergraduates on ‘Facing Interviews and CV Writing’ and ‘Industrial Expectations from a Candidate’. The workshop was conducted and sponsored by MAS Capital and Fonterra Brands Sri Lanka.
The second phase, Mock Interviews were held to prepare undergraduates to face interviews prior to the Career Day. It was conducted by MAS Capital on the 8th of February at the Mathematics Auditorium, Faculty of Science University of Colombo and concluded successfully with the participation of over 80 applicants.
The third and final phase, Career Day was held on the 9th of February at the Faculty of Science premises. Eleven of the most innovative and recognized business organizations of Sri Lanka; MAS Holdings, J.L.Morison Son & Jones, Attune, Great Place to Work, Decathalon Sri Lanka, Stax Inc., Moody’s Analytics, CodeGen, Virtusa, IFS and Sampath Bank participated conducting interview sessions for over 250 job applicants promising striking job opportunities.
Interviews for a great variety of jobs for applicants with different fields of study were conducted along with walk-in interviews for applicants trying their luck. Career Day is an opportunity for all the participants to tackle on the corporate world. Even if one does not get that dream job through this, it is an experience to learn from and Future Challenge definitely gives the needed kick-start to one’s future career.
Future Challenge gives the rare opportunity for the graduates to gain an insight into the world of corporate and entrepreneurial and molds them to be the perfect candidate. On a finishing note to thrive for success, “Don’t limit your challenges, Challenge your limits”.
